LINCOLN – The Board of Trustees announced four finalists in the search for the next chancellor of the Nebraska State College System (NSCS). Chancellor Stan Carpenter is retiring after 18 years of service with the NSCS.

CHADRON – Two 2005 ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College graduates – Mitch Feldman of Litchfield, Nebraska, and Dr. Ethan Mann of Centennial, Colorado, – will receive the college’s Distinguished Young Alumni Award during a luncheon Saturday during Homecoming celebrations. CHADRON - The latest edition of “Tenth Street Miscellany,” the literary and art journal produced by ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College students, is now available online with a new design featuring photos by CSC student Kaitlin Macke, and 70 pages of poetry, art work, fiction and non-fiction stories, and a critical essay on the global rise of Nazi ideology prior to World War II.

CHADRON – A pilot project is underway this fall to help ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College freshmen build community. The Common Intellectual Experience is intended to help freshmen acclimate to academic life, examine important social issues, set academic expectations and foster critical thinking, according to Common Intellectual Experience committee co-chair Dr. Kathleen Kirsch.

For the past two spring semesters, the series has featured international students’ presentations about their home countries, but starting this semester, based on feedback from attendees, Associate Vice President of Student Services Sherry Douglas said students, faculty and staff will be invited to showcase their travel experiences.

CHADRON – Professional adventurer Brian O’Malley will speak at ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College Thursday, Sept. 27. His presentation, “The Spirit of Adventure,” will be free and open to the public in the Student Center Ballroom at 7 p.m. According to Dr. Kim Madsen, whose First Year Inquiry course Survival Skills (FYI 169x) students selected O’Malley, his message reflects his experiences as a paramedic firefighter, mountain climber, SWAT officer, and paragliding pilot.

CHADRON – ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College’s Constitution Day event will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center’s Chicoine Atrium. “Protests and the Constitution” will feature a panel discussion about protesting from a variety of angles, including the power of protesting, the history of protests, and the legal ramifications of conducting protests, according to Project Coordinator and event organizer Kate Pope. The event is free and open to the public.
