Construction of Sports Complex, accreditation top the news for 2017

CHADRON – ���ϴ��¼� and athletics shared the spotlight at ���ϴ��¼� State College in 2017. The college’s status as an accredited institution was continued following a successful comprehensive on-campus visit from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), three track student-athletes captured the school’s first-ever NCAA team trophy in any sport, and construction began on the Sports Complex.

253 candidates receive degrees at Winter Commencement

CHADRON – ���ϴ��¼� State College conferred 81 master's degrees and 172 bachelor's degrees upon candidates during Winter Commencement Friday. Dr. Laura Gaudet, Professor and Chair of ���ϴ��¼� State College’s Counseling, Psychological Sciences and Social Work department, spoke at the graduate ceremony and Dr. James O'Rourke, Professor Emeritus of Agriculture, spoke at the undergraduate ceremony where he also received the college's Distinguished Service Award.

Elkins, former CSC president, dies at age 94

Dr. F. Clark Elkins, who was the president of ���ϴ��¼� State College for five and a half years during a time of growth and improvement, died Saturday, Nov. 24, at his home in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was 94.

Commissioned composition performed during Graves Lecture

CHADRON – During a Nov. 14 Graves Lecture at ���ϴ��¼� State College, Dr. Michael Stephens and Dr. Jim Margetts performed a saxophone and piano piece, “Relics and Remnants.” Stephens, associate professor of music, was commissioned to compose the piece by the Nebraska Music Teachers Association (NMTA).

Watson ready to lead ���ϴ��¼� State Foundation

CHADRON – The ���ϴ��¼� State Foundation selected Ben Watson, a ���ϴ��¼� native and ���ϴ��¼� State College graduate, as its new Chief Executive Officer during its Board of Directors’ meeting Oct. 21. Watson began working for the CS Foundation as its first Director of Major Gifts in 2016. He replaces Connie Rasmussen, who announced her retirement in September.

Revamped Tenth Street Miscellany seeking submissions

CHADRON – The literary journal on campus, “Tenth Street Miscellany” is trying to connect the worlds of art and writing for its newest edition. Excerpts from two written pieces published on its website are available for artists to use as inspiration. Hospitality area named for Lewellen family

CHADRON – For seven decades ���ϴ��¼� State College alumnus Verne Lewellen has been an advocate for his alma mater. To honor his contributions over the years, the Nebraska State College Board of Trustees unanimously voted Friday to name the hospitality center in the Sports Complex in recognition of the Lewellen family. The Verne and Erma Lewellen and Family Hospitality Center will provide a gathering space for boosters, alumni and supporters in the Con Marshall Press Box at Don Beebe Stadium.

ROTC awards more than $500,000 in scholarships

CHADRON – The ���ϴ��¼� State College Army ROTC program is growing in numbers and in scholarships. Since August 2016, 11 new cadets have been contracted and more than $500,000 in scholarships have been awarded from Cadet Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky, according to Capt. Nate Reicks, assistant professor of Military Science.

Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees approves tuition increase

LINCOLN, Neb. – On Friday, June 16, the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees approved tuition increases for 2017-2018. Tuition will increase $12 per credit hour, bringing undergraduate resident rates to $172 per credit hour at each college. With this increase, ���ϴ��¼� State, Peru State, and Wayne State remain the most affordable 4-year institutions in the state.

Peterson and Bieganski reappointed to the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees

CSC's Upward Bound program funded for another five-year term

CHADRON – ���ϴ��¼� State College’s Upward Bound, a federal government program that assists area high school students with college preparation, has received funding for another five years. CSC hosted the first Upward Bound program in Nebraska from 1966 to 1974. After a lapse, it was renewed in 2007.

Nesheim appointed to Humanities Nebraska Council

CHADRON – ���ϴ��¼� State College Interim Director of Assessment Dr. David Nesheim was recently elected to the Nebraska Humanities Council. Nesheim was elected in January and began his duties in April. He said his service is expected to last six years.

Commencement speakers share advice with graduates

CHADRON – ���ϴ��¼� State College commencement speakers Dr. Yvonne Moody and Dr. Megan Schuckman shared their love of ���ϴ��¼� State College and lessons learned on and off the CSC campus Saturday. Moody, a professor of Applied Sciences, spoke to master’s graduates in Memorial Hall while Schuckman, a family physician in ���ϴ��¼�, spoke at the undergraduate commencement in the Chicoine Center. A total of 362 graduates received their degrees at the two ceremonies.

Ivy Day royalty, Platinum Eagle recipients named

CHADRON – ���ϴ��¼� State College recognized seniors at the institution's traditional Ivy Day ceremony Friday in Memorial Hall. The annual event, which has occurred at CSC every year since 1919, is sponsored by the Blue Key and Cardinal Key honor societies.

Michel named April Student of the Month

Diverse art collection an educational and visual resource for CSC

Art students tour Santa Fe galleries, museums during spring break

CHADRON – A group of ���ϴ��¼� State College students and faculty visited a number of galleries and museums in the area of Santa Fe, New Mexico, during midterm break in early March. Campus prepares for 57th Annual Scholastic Contest

CHADRON – Students from 43 area high schools will travel to ���ϴ��¼� State College Friday to compete in 43 tests ranging from agronomy to trigonometry.

Four of ten RMAC All-Academic spots go to Eagle women

���ϴ��¼� State College women's track and field dominated the RMAC indoor season All-Academic First Team released on Wednesday. CSC track and field stars Tessa Gorsuch, Ashlyn Hanson, Mel Herl, and Stachia Reuwsaat gave the Eagles more First Teamers than any other conference opponent. Two new shows open in Memorial Hall

Union agreements approved by Board of Trustees

LINCOLN, Neb. – Agreements between the Nebraska State College Board of Trustees and the State College Education Association (SCEA), the Nebraska State College System Professional Association (NSCPA) and the Nebraska Association of Public Employees/American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (NAPE/AFSCME) collective bargaining units were approved during the meeting of the Board of Trustees in Lincoln.
