Social Work conference to focus on ending sex trafficking

CHADRON – 黑料大事记 State College’s senior Social Work majors enrolled in Methods III: Org and Communities (SW 435) are hosting a conference, “Not for Sale: Sex Trafficking in Nebraska,” Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the Student Center Ballroom from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The conference is free and open to the public.

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., and the conference begins at 8 a.m.

After a short table discussion, members of the CSC Theatre Department will perform 鈥淪he Has a Name鈥 by Andrew Kooman.

Hollie Strand will be the first of four speakers to present at 8:30 a.m. Strand works as a Computer Forensic Examiner at the Pennington County Sherriff鈥檚 Office and her presentation is titled 鈥淥nline Dangers.鈥

Federico Vicente will then present 鈥淪AFE-T Training鈥 and 鈥淲hat鈥檚 Being Done in Nebraska?鈥 at 9:30 a.m. Vicente is the Salvation Army鈥檚 Fight to End Trafficking Program (SAFE-T) Community Outreach Coordinator in Nebraska.

After a short break, a survivor of sex trafficking will present 鈥淓xperiences of Being Trafficked; Hope for Others鈥 at 10:50 a.m.

Attendees will then be provided lunch at 11:30 a.m., accompanied by a speech from President Randy Rhine.

At 12:30 p.m., members of CSC鈥檚 Theatre Department will return to perform the second part of 鈥淪he Has a Name.鈥

The fourth speaker, Joseph Smith, will address attendees at 12:45 p.m. Smith, Madison County Attorney, will present 鈥淧rosecution and Sex Trafficking.鈥

Strand will return to the stage at 1:40 p.m. to present a second topic, 鈥淐hild Sexual Abuse: Bootcamp for Sex Trafficking.鈥

Following Strand, a panel of experts will take part in a question and answer session with audience members. Panel members include Cassie Wegelin, a Scottsbluff State Patrol Investigator, Russel Harford, Dawes County Judge, Nicole Keller, DOVES Program Coordinator for Dawes and Sheridan County and Vicente.
