CHADRON – One of ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College’s most prominent graduates, Dr. Eugene M. Hughes, died March 10 in Flagstaff, Arizona. He was 86. Hughes, recognized as an outstanding mathematics professor at ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College began his career in higher education administration while at CSC and was the president of two major universities and the interim president of a third institution.

CHADRON – ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College hosted the 15th annual Western District History Day March 5. Fifty-four students participated in the virtual event with a theme of Communication in History. Thirty entries will advance to the state competition, which will also be virtual.

CHADRON – ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College’s Business Academy has developed three new focus areas in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree program: Accounting, Digital Marketing, and Healthcare Management. Each of the focus areas will be offered online or face-to-face.

CHADRON – Thirty-three Nebraska high school students have been selected for the Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP) at ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College. Director of Health Professions Kristal Kuhnel said it was quite a challenge to interview the candidates in person, but the effort was worthwhile.

CHADRON – A recent project aimed at removing Russian olive trees from the area around Briggs Pond southwest of the ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College campus unexpectedly revealed the presence of a possible Nebraska State Champion Tree on the ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State Foundation’s 50 acre-plus Thompson Natural History Preserve.
