Sheldon Statewide exhibition opens at CSC
CHADRON – ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College will open its presentation of the exhibition Sheldon Statewide: Hyphen American on Aug. 28. Memorial Hall’s Main Gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by appointment by calling 308-432-6317. The show will close Sept. 28.
The 17 pieces in the exhibition explore the many ways art conveys themes of identity, gender, race, ethnicity, and class that reflect the diversity of the American experience. Presented during the United States' 250th celebration, the artists in Hyphen American examine how individuals represent themselves and others, depict histories and struggles, and create communities and rituals that shape personal and collective identities.
This presentation of Sheldon Statewide is adapted from the exhibition Hyphen American: Intersection of Identity, presented at Sheldon Museum of Art in the spring of 2026, organized by Christian Wurst, associate curator for exhibition.
This exhibition is part of Sheldon Statewide, an annual program started in 1987 with the purpose of sharing the collection of the Sheldon Museum of Art with the people of Nebraska. During the 2026-27 school year, Sheldon Statewide: Hyphen American will visit eight venues and be seen by thousands of people.
