Perlinski was one of three recipients of the SRM’s Outstanding Young Professional Award and the sole recipient of the Range Science Education Council’s award for Early Career Undergraduate Teaching. Criteria for the includes service to the profession and SRM. He was nominated by Mary Reece with Natural Resource Conservation Service in Ogallala.

Perlinski said it was humbling to be recognized by the SRM for service as a full-time college educator since the focus of the award is often about research or extension.

“CSC sends alumni all over the Great Plains from Texas to North Dakota, and west to California. To be recognized for that was nice. CSC has quite a footprint. Our impact in range management is pretty big,” Perlinski said.

His service to the society include a five-year term as an officer of the Nebraska Section of SRM and one year as section president. He also served on the Advisory Council for the parent society; including a year as co-chair and a year as chair. Perlinski’s volunteer work assisting with the Nebraska range short course every other year and the annual youth range camp were also outlined in his nomination.

Perlinski’s colleague, Dr. Aaron Field nominated him for the award.

“This award really meant a lot because it’s what I like to do,” Perlinski said. “CSC has been a member of RSEC for quite awhile. They promote the profession and are advocates for teaching.”

Professor Emeritus Dr. Jim O’Rourke, in his letter of support, wrote the award is the ultimate certification of abilities for Range Management educators.

“From his first day at CSC, Tony has been extremely active in Society for Range Management endeavors. Tony is a constant leader and adviser to the students. Truly full time teachers of range management are few. Tony is one of them and, as such, has excelled at CSC, bringing the program into the circle of quality programs in the world,” O’Rourke said.
