A scavenger hunt based on pictographs was a new feature this year in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center. The annual event has taken place for more than 20 years.

Becky Peacock, an Art teacher at Morrill High School, has been bringing her students to CSC Art Day for 12 years.

“It gives them exposure to the arts at the college level. Here they can experience something other than our classrooms. I love that we are invited,” Peacock said.

Her daughter, Morgan Peacock, now an Art teacher at Torrington Middle School, came to CSC Art Day as a Morrill High School student, and later assisted with the drawing session at Art Day as CSC student.

Bridgeport High School Art teacher Debbie Millette echoed Peacock’s sentiments.

“This day gives students the chance to see what others are doing. This way, their learning is not confined to just our school,” Millette said.

High school student Heather Grubbs of Mitchell, Nebraska, who plans to study nursing in college, has attended Art Day for two years.

CSC student Makenzy Petty of ���ϴ��¼� felt positive about her first time volunteering to help with Art Day.

“As an art enthusiast, I am so excited to help and to share this experience with our mixed media team. I’m so glad you don’t have to be pursuing an art degree in order to help spread the love of art,” Petty said.

Emily Moore of Edgemont, South Dakota, participated in mixed media and book making workshops.

“I think Art Day is a good experience for everyone interested in art. The day is filled with new experiences and skills that aren’t often learned in your normal everyday art class. Art day has never let me down, it’s always a good time,” Moore said.
