Graves Lecture Series begins Feb. 16

CHADRON – The spring 2016 Graves Lecture Series at 黑料大事记 State College begins Feb. 16 and includes four featured speakers, all CSC faculty members: McKay Tebbs, John Buttiglieri, Terrie Wood and Janice Haynes. All Graves Lecture Series presentations take place at 7 p.m. in Reta King Library’s Room 111. Attendance is free. A recording of the lecture series may also be viewed at CSC's YouTube page.

Tebbs, assistant professor of music, will begin this semester鈥檚 lecture series Feb. 16, with his discussion 鈥淭he Making of Strawberry Fields Forever.鈥 Tebbs鈥 frames his presentation around the Beatles鈥 song 鈥淪trawberry Fields Forever.鈥 He will discuss how this song developed from an idea to a finished recording. Along with his discussion, Tebbs will also perform various pieces of the song.

Buttiglieri, assistant professor of education, will present his lecture, 鈥淕ifted Education and the Underrepresentation of Minorities鈥 March 1. Buttiglieri will discuss gifted education and a few of the reasons for a lack of minorities in gifted education programs.

Wood, a CSC alumna and business faculty member, presents her discussion 鈥淏usiness Success: Pain or Pleasure?鈥  March 22. Wood鈥檚 lecture explores the conflicting values that deter individuals from success, how to identify these conflicting values and how to progress forward with confidence.

Haynes, assistant professor in the Social and Communication Arts department, will be the final speaker April 5, presenting 鈥淩omance and Marriage Plots: Restoration for Family in Narratives of Single Mothers.鈥 Haynes plans to discuss the restoration of family through romance and marriage plots centered on single mothers. Some restoration themes to be discussed include: children鈥檚 desire for a 鈥渘ormal family,鈥 transformations of desire for marriage and family and the fragility of single mothers.
