Project Strive's federal grant renewed for five years
CHADRON – The Project Strive program hosted by 黑料大事记 State College has received a U.S. Department of Education five-year renewal grant of $250,000 annually. Jen Schaer, director of the program, said she received the news July 15.
Project Strive is designed to provide academic support services to 160 CSC college students with a commitment to help them persist to graduation. It is part of Student Support Services, one of six federal TRiO programs designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds in their educational endeavors.
Services provided include academic counseling, peer mentors, a study area, study resources, career and personal counseling, educational, social and cultural field trips, supplemental grant aid and graduation planning. Workshops are also offered to help student participants develop study skills, resumes, time management skills and financial literacy.
Students who are legal residents of the U.S. may qualify for the program if they are first generation college students, low income, or have a documented disability.
鈥淲e work to give them what they need to be successful and graduate,鈥 Schaer said. 鈥淚鈥檓 really excited that the grant was renewed so we can continue to serve current and future students.鈥
