ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College’s Peer Tutor Program in September celebrated its first five-year recertification from the College Reading and Learning Association.

ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State’s program earned certification from the CRLA on March 21, 2002 and a three-year renewal certification in 2003.

Since earning the accreditation, ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State has had 59 tutors earn certification through CRLA’s International Tutor Program Certification.

Frances Gonzalez, CSC tutor coordinator, said the certification provides recognition and positive reinforcement for tutors’ successful work and sets a standard of skills and training for tutors.

Tutors may earn certification on three levels – regular, advanced and master. Each level requires and additional 10 hours of training and 25 hours of experience.

Gonzalez has been a member of CRLA since 1996 and is president-elect for the CRLA Heartland Chapter.
