Students earn honors for campus involvement
Three ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College students were recognized for outstanding campus involvement during a banquet this week.
Christina Hill of Burns, Wyo., a junior studying to be an elementary teacher, was the top point-getter among students competing for the annual STRIVE awards – an acronym created from the words success, teaching, responsibility, initiative, volunteering and excellence. She was presented a new digital handheld organizer during the ceremony.
Members of the ELITE program accumulate points for the STRIVE awards by attending ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State events throughout the year. Extra points are awarded to those who take a leadership role at an event.
Second place was awarded to Amanda Helser of Gering, a sophomore majoring in biology. Lillian Witt of Hay Springs, a senior studying journalism, was third.
The STRIVE awards were presented to the students by ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College President Dr. Tom Krepel. Numerous other successful students and faculty involved with the program were recognized at the banquet.
ELITE, which stands for Educational Learning Initiatives Towards Excellence, is a program at ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State funded by through the federal TRIO program. ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State’s program serves 160 students.
