ºÚÁÏ´óʼÇ, Alliance choirs to combine for concerts

The ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç Community Chorus and the Alliance Community Choir will combine for a fall concert to be presented in both communities.
The performance in Alliance will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14 at the United Methodist Church. The ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16 in Memorial Hall at ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç State College.
. The conductor for this special event will be the former CSC choral director, Dr. Roger MacNeill, who took over the ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç Community Chorus four years ago,
He is an Alliance native who enjoyed singing in the Alliance choir when he was in high school. Last year, he was invited to conduct the Alliance group when it presented Handel’s “Messiah.” He then offered to combine the choirs for a concert this fall.
The major work to be sung is “The Gloria” by Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi.
Each choir also will sing a separate number with its own director. Two delightful works by British composer John Rutter will close the concert.
Soloists include Sandra Nye, Margaret Crouse and Colleen Margetts of ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç and Deborah Williams, Sydney Roosa and Rebecca Mitchell of Alliance. Mitchell directs the Alliance choir.
Melinda Fillmore of ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç and Linda Vollweiler of Alliance will share the piano accompanist duties.
. ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç has also utilized the talents of Gwanetha Neff as a rehearsal accompanist and Norm Martin as a director of sectionals.
To defray expenses, a freewill offering will be taken at the Alliance concert. Tickets obtained in advance for the ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç concert are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and those 18 and under. All tickets at the door in ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç will be $6. Tickets for the ºÚÁÏ´óÊÂ¼Ç concert may be reserved by calling 432-6360 or stopping at the Memorial Hall box office from 2 to 5 p.m. each weekday.
